Submission!

Well, it's that time again.
Submission time baby!

It's been a lovely journey, once again, with Adam Townend.
We've both worked extremely hard to come up with strong ideas and outcomes, and I believe we've succeeded in our team working skills.

The presentation boards are complete and ready to be sent off and mauled over by the judges.

Bottle Labels

The bottle label is now complete! :D
We have made sure the width of the label is exactly the same size as the original, so it fits well around the belly of the bottle. We also had to ensure the sweatband would cover the label perfectly, so it was completely hidden until removed.

We both put our heads together and combined our skills to create these fine works of art.

I LOVE MY MEN!

Each label will represent a different flavour of drink, so we decided to use the technique Feel Good used, and changed the colour for each.

Typefaces

I've been creating typefaces which could potentially be used on our feel good posters.

Typography Module 9th Session

We've been playing with layouts today. A rather strange session, yet an interesting one.
Using Quark Express's shape tool, we ''painted'' layouts based on words.
Here we have an intense layout.
I chose to use black, and changed the opacity to give it a slight range. I also chose to lay my boxes horizontally and vertically.

The next word was 'relaxed'. I chose to use a pastel blue to represent this feeling. I felt as though the shapes I make should be horizontally, so they seem as though they're laying down. Vertical rectangular shapes are very upright and alert.

The final task of the session was to use coloured type to create hierarchy. To be honest I didn't completely understand what we were doing, but I went along with it anyway. Doing this only went poo for me as Graham decided to pick on me! :( Ah well. All done now! Time to get on with some real work!

The closest things to our finals to date, and we're very pleased with them! :D
There are a few things which need to be seen to, but apart from them, we're well on our way.

The sweatband artwork has been heat-pressed which caused slight discolouration to the material, although it's nothing that can really be helped. They're not the best quality, so yeah really. We can only do our best to put everything together and ensure they're photographed well.

To be continued... :)

Booklet men

I've been creating the illustrations which will be accompanying the hints.

We've changed the context which the hints will be going in to. We were originally going to create a small booklet containing the information. After a few days thinking, we've decided on using the bottle label as a way of displaying the information. It will literally be a double sided piece of art work.

We've also decided upon using 4 hints. We feel as though this will be enough, and it will fit nicely in the label.
The hints we've agreed on are..

'No one around? Have a boogie.' (Dancing)
'Give the TV a break, do something new.' (Alternatives)
'Why not take the stairs today?' (Stairs)
'It's not the dogs fault you're so lazy, walk it.' (Dog walking)

Others we came up with are..

Using the stairs as an alternative to the lift:
'Don't wait for a lift, take the stairs.'
'Stuck waiting for the lift? Take the stairs.'
'The lift could be faulty, your legs aren't. Take the stairs.'

Taking the dog for a walk:
'Don't kick the dog, walk it.'
'Don't feed the dog, walk it.'
'The dog looks a little fat, walk it.'

Alternatives to watching TV:
'Nothing on TV? Don't watch it. Do something new.'

Dancing:
'Fancy a boogie? Get on down.'
'Got your favourite track on? Have a boogie.'
'Take your bedroom dancing to the streets.'

We dismissed some of them because of the tone of voice. They could probably have been taken in a negative light even though we're trying to keep it funny and gimmicky.
I think we've chosen a good set. They're short persuasions. It's almost as though they're making the audience feel a little guilty. I reckon they work. :)

Hyde Park apple bobbing

We took a trip to Hyde Park today, to photograph Townend do a spot of apple bobbing. It's safe to say I almost wet myself laughing!!

We tried to make the photos relate to Glastonbury as much as possible, by reducing the background view as it doesn't have as many trees... or so I've been told!
We also chose a suitable area of grass. Not too green and a little muddy. Perfection!

We were forced to use a digital camera, one I had borrowed from the photography suit, so they didn't come out as good as we hoped. Of course these wouldn't be used for the final poster, but it still would've been grander if they came out nicer. :/ We'll have the SLR from Wednesday onwards, so we'll be using that for the final ones which will be taken on Friday. WOO! Fingers crossed they'll come out well!!

Action plan 3

Mr Townend has lovingly written another action plan for this week. There's a hell of a lot to do. :( It's safe to say no ones gonna be getting any sleep this week!

Space hopper photoshoot!

The embedder thing I've been using to create this little slide shows allows only a certain amount of files at a time, which explains why I've got so many separate slide shows going. I've got another 6 which I was planning to whack on here, but I shan't bore any longer! They're all very similar to the photographs above.

As you can probably tell, some of the photos are a little blurry in places because of the movement. Stupid me couldn't remember how to change the shutter speed, so I used the automatic option.
As the shoot neared the end, I changed the setting to 'Sport' in hope that the blurring would decrease.

It was actually quite tricky getting the right photos considering we were after certain compositions. Especially photographing a moving target.I did however, manage to get a few good shots which I'm pleased about. I just hope Adam agrees! :)

It's been a while since I've taken photos using an SLR. I really enjoyed it. I'm definitely going to make more of an effort to take more in the future! :)

A bita photoshopping

I thought I'd have a go at photoshopping the Feel Good logo onto the space hopper, just to see what it looks like. Apart from the pixellation, it doesn't look too bad, ooeeee! :D I'm sure Townend will be able to do a much better job than me though! We can only pray. XD

Heatpressing

I had a go at heat pressing the Feel Good logo onto an old wristband I found at the back of my wardrobe.
It doesn't look too bad looking at the picture, which I guess is OK as we'll only be sending in a picture. Up close however, it's not too snazzy. For a start a cleverly printed it out wrong, which doesn't matter right now, but it's definitely something I need to remember. It's also very bubbly; probably because I used my straighteners instead of an iron. Oops!

I'll have to give it another go, when I can get my hands on the correct heat method!

Another way we could do this, is by screen-printing the image on. We're trying to work around this as it would be incredibly time consuming for such a small piece of work.

Photography

SPACE HOPPER! :D
We put our monies together and purchased this fine bouncy toy!
Saturday I'll be photographing people on it, having fun. Let's hope it's a sunny day!!

Feel Good Typeface

Big thumbs up to clever Townend who created an entire typeface from the letters used on the bottle labels!!
We're continuing with poster layouts.
We intend on using the typeface alongside the image of a person jumping around, having fun on a space hopper! The feel is quite simple: fun!

Typography Module 8th Session

We've been working on our CV's! Yeeah!!

I'll admit, I didn't have one to show at the beginning of class due to my slack head, but what I came out with during the session was quite decent I feel.

  • I went back to thinking about what we've been told about hierarchy. My contact information should be placed at the top of the page and should be the first thing seen.
  • A description about what skills I have should be the next priority, so the company can compare to see if I have the skills they want or are looking for.
  • Any work experience or freelance work would be next to show my commitment and what I've done and for who.
I decided to include my most recent and relevant educational information. I feel as though this does in fact have an importance as it shows I'm committed and can stick to something. I shows I have a strong interest in the subject matter.

A brief description about me and what I'm like as a person.

Build up to CV

Just a few sketches to get a quick idea as to how I want my CV to look.

I want it to be as simple as possible. A lot of space would be ideal as there would be less to read which makes it easier to read. As I won't include a lot of text, I'm going to have to make sure I choose the most important information. The things employers would want to read.

I will create a logo for myself, and this will be visible on my CV.

I may include some colour in my CV, although I don't think this is a neccessity.

I will include:
  • about me
  • profile of skills
  • freelance work
  • work experience
  • competitions entered
  • recent education

Ongoing Evaluation

Comment on the depth of appropriate research
I feel as though we have gathered appropriate research relating to the company we're designing for, our thoughts and ideas.

Comment on the breadth of initial ideas
We have gathered a wide range of research.

Comment on the selection of potential solutions
Many ideas have been discussed, rejected and developed further to find stronger ideas.

Comment on the thorough visual development
At the beginning of the brief we allocated jobs. Visual development was given to me, although my partner could give a helping hand.
I feel as though I have come out with a reasonable amount of visuals demonstrating ideas. They clearly illustrate the message we want to give.

Comment on the clarity of presentation
To date, Adam and myself have managed to keep everything very organised. We have been using folders to document our paper-based work, and our blogs to show the research we have gathered. More or less everything from our folders are on our blogs, but it's always nice to have something to handle which we can keep referring to if needs be.

Altogether now

Just a quick example with the logo printed on the sweatband, wrapped around the bottle.

The newest member of the family

Introducing, the newest member of the family, and a possible feel good man to be used on the sweatbands.

He's supposed to look as though he's running. Hah! :)

Alternative men

Going back to the idea of the sweatband wrapped around the bottle, we've given it some thought, and had the idea of creating alternative feel good men.

I took inspiration from found images online of people being active, and created illustrations based on the existing logo.
They all look rather rough and quickly constructed, however, they are supposed to look natural, just like the current logo/man.

I thought I'd try them out, so replaced the, what looks to be meditating man, with one of my illustrations.

Another action plan

Illustration/photography

I thought I'd give the illustration/photography technique a quick go.
I had illustrated a few ideas on the design sheets, although they were based on packaging ideas.

As 'keeping active' is our concept, I've been thinking about what makes us feel good in this sense.

Feel Good: Tasting and questionnaire

We both created a questionnaire for people to fill in after they had tried the Feel Good Drink. We thought this was just as important to do as well as the separate questionnaire for those who hadn't tried the drink.

Little did I know, the drinks are distinguished by the bottle design/shape. There are still (left) and sparkling (right) drinks to choose from.

We thought it important to talk to people who we don't know and get them to fill out a questionnaire, just so we could get some outside information and influences.
We still asked a few people from the Graphics course to do it too.
The results were really interesting, and we could definitely tell the results apart.
Using a wide variety of people ensures we got a wide variety of answers.
